Lauren Taglienti's Online Portfolio

Director, Playwright, Actress, Editor

As one of five people chosen to participate in The SBU Theatre Arts Student New Works Festival, I wrote and directed a play that I planned on performing in-person with another actress. However, because of quarantine restrictions, I was given the opportunity to adapt the in-person production to a virtual format. I made massive changes to the script very quickly. I recorded the play with my scene partner while navigating a 12-hour time difference because she was relocated to China due to quarantine rules. I also edited the recording of the play in post-production. The Pareidolia Effect is the result of our efforts.

The Lit/Lens Review

Founder, Author

The following is taken from the "About" tab in the heading of this site:

Literature influences media of all kinds, and I will be taking a look at these films through the lens of literature — and broadening the scope of the literary lens from what one would traditionally and prescriptively consider literature — books, poems, etc. — to a more descriptive scope that captures references to films, video games, plays, stories told orally, and anything that contains a narrative.

The connections I make are in the articles of The Lit/Lens Review.

In addition to reviews, I'll also be interspersing more personal thoughts of my own in creative pieces, book and movie suggestions, and anything else I feel like sharing with you.

Creator, Writer

"MAPS" is one of the most exciting projects I have ever worked on. I have always been intrigued by maps, cartography, geography, and how they live in the metaphysical, physical, and fictional realms, as well as how the above all coexist and interact with each other. Cross-examining data about the specific language used to discuss "maps" from two genres, one that discusses physical maps and one that discusses their relevance in the fictional world, has inspired me to no end.

Host, Producer, and Editor

I hosted and produced XCU: The Viewfinder, a destination for storytelling from the entertainment industry, where I interviewed and chatted with everyone in the entertainment industry from the Executive Producer of Home Alone, Scott Rosenfelt, to Iman Zawahry, whose feature Americanish took the film festival world by storm. We discussed their respective niches in the industry, as well as how the culture of the entertainment industry affected their work. I also edited each episode in post-production.

Senior Writer

I wrote 21 pieces for Her Campus Stony Brook between April 2020 and April 2021, including film analyses, personal essays, and other creative works. A lot of research went into almost every piece I wrote for Her Campus. I won the Article of the Month award for my article titled "Making Friends in Quarantine."
